Introduces the circuit-QED dual-rail qubit: a logical qubit encoded in |01⟩/|10⟩ of two 3D stub superconducting cavities, coupled and controlled by a transmon ancilla. Photon loss (the dominant error) takes the system out of the single-excitation subspace to |00⟩, which is detectable as an erasure. Demonstrates noise bias strongly favoring erasure over undetectable Pauli errors.

Key Results

  • Cavity dual-rail: |0_L⟩ = |01⟩, |1_L⟩ = |10⟩ of two 3D cavities
  • Photon lifetime: >1 ms (3D stub cavities)
  • Erasure:Pauli error ratio strongly biased (>10:1)
  • QND parity measurement via transmon ancilla
  • Foundation for AWS and Yale erasure qubit programs
