Control and single-shot readout of an ion embedded in a nanophotonic cavity

Summary

Demonstrates control and single-shot readout of a single ${}^{171}{\text{Yb}}^{3+}$ ion in a YVO₄ nanophotonic cavity. Achieves spin coherence $T_2>30\text{ms}$ for a cavity-coupled ion and single-shot readout fidelity >95%. Optical and spin transitions are first-order insensitive to magnetic field fluctuations. Establishes the rare-earth-ion–nanophotonic-cavity platform for quantum networking.
