First demonstration of encoded quantum computations that outperform their unencoded counterparts (“beyond break-even”) at large logical scale on a trapped-ion processor. Uses the 98-qubit Quantinuum Helios system with high-rate [[ [k+2, k, 2] ]] iceberg quantum error detection (QED) codes and two-level concatenated iceberg QEC codes (k2+2)(k1+2), k2·k1, 4, leveraging high-fidelity gates and long-range connectivity.
Key Results
- Beyond-break-even computation on the 98-qubit Quantinuum Helios trapped-ion processor
- High-rate iceberg QED k+2, k, 2 and concatenated QEC codes
- 48–94 logical qubits across fault-tolerant and partially fault-tolerant benchmarks
- Reasonable postselection rates; concatenation suppresses postselection losses
- Evidence that high-rate QED/QEC codes are viable for near-term beyond-classical-scale computation
